besides sandy point and inverloch ? all we have is 2m chop in the bay when the winds up just wish we had a speed strip somewhere close.
Hey Red and OB64
When blowing 15 kts plus -
How flat is it at Point Henry?
How consistant are the winds on Lake Connewarre?
At Pt Henry the chop is a little sloppy but not overly huge as the depth is only between 1 and 2m where we sail. Its generally just wind chop and would never get over 1m. We generally sail the western side (Stingaree Bay). Can still get nice speed runs in the chop with out a problem if you have a smaller board.
The conditions are the same at the lake but with the chop being a little smaller. The lake is best on a SSW to SSE as the wind is pretty well uninterupted. I cant wait for the summer sea breezes to kick in properly
Altona beach south of the pier has a shallow speed strip that works on a full tide. I have had some good runs there on a south east wind but it should be good on a southerly or easterly also. It is flat due to a sand bar 50m or so out from the beach on which the bay chop breaks. So if you want wave action you can just go out over the sandbar. Nice grassy rigging area and easy launching at the end of Maidstone St. When I was there there were a few kiters but they were friendly.
I was just wondering, while on this topic, has anyone windsurfed along here?
It looks like it has potential along the rockwall? Anyone been here on a good day? Any rocks or underwater objects?

The place is called the willy speed track.
Needs mid to high tide (check the watkins bay page, the tide meter is not far away), plus a N/NE wind. Generally gusty because it's a land breeze but usually flat.
rig up on the Strand side at the carpark closest to the water.
There is a little channel (sort of) between the rocks where you can walk out to deeper water. Definetly wear booties, you will sink well past your ankles in crappy mud.
If you sail in the middle of the bay or towards the rockwall you will be ok, there are heaps of rocks on the strand side - check out google earth to get a better idea. Many a fin has been trashed on these rocks!
If there are ships docked at Webb dock it can get a little sheltered at the bottom of the run. Be careful at the end of the run into the shipping channel, there is plenty of boating traffic around at times (that wont and cant stop).

If there is wind (anything from 12-40kts) usually one of us will be sailing it, say gday!
wish we had more places to windsurf flat water. you know just for a full on a blast in 30+ winds somewhere to sail when it is like a ocean in the bay.
