He should have romped it in - he was moving and it was pretty mushy, not like it was a hollow bomb

We probably should go easy on him. Have a look at the wave height compared to the guy on the wave face at 1:04 sec looks at least logo height... Still recon he would have screamed it in though!

^^^ agreed ken
He also never swam for his gear and just hung around doing nothing.......so I wonder if it was deliberate stack to film himself floating around to show his non - windsurfing mates how 'hardcore and dangerous' it is out there???

The wave was only crumbling at the apex, a few quick pumps, and he would of easily made that one.

Strange how he didn't swim earlier.

Is anyone able to post a vid on how to go over foam/waves like that?

Check out the footage of massive Fuerte. There's some excellent grovelling in that one

It allways easy to be an armchair critic and real life can take on a different perspective to what you see on the video.

I hate it when you get those gusts and lulls...often it's that big lull just before the wave hits you and you stand there helpless just waiting to be smashed.

I agree..... so I watched it again in case I was being unduly critical.
I still think he'd have made it easily as he was moving forward well and the whitewater was crumbly and a foot think - not hollow and pitching.
Deliberate bail in order to make a video of a bailout - as evidenced by the fact he didn't even swim after his gear.

Don't discount the fact that those wide angle lenses make even big waves look flat.

isn't it always better to hold on and get as far as you can? unless it's huge...? going over holding onto the boom means that when you come up, you still have some kit to sail

interesting subject

done the above a couple of times,,, the result was very soar shoulder joints and finger joints and the board and rig got ripped away.....

now id try and kick board over the top.... and hope for the best...

or try and make it....

or chicken gybe well before

read on here that some people reckon an intended catapult (forward) just before impact is an option !!!!!! not my cup of tea though.....

Unless it's a mast high shore spec barrel I reckon your are safest taking it on, imo he would have made it easily, as Mark suggested it looks like an obvious setup.

An intentional catapult/forward before the wave...wtf...sounds like a good way to quickly reduce sail area

There is only 3 options. In order.

1) hit it as fast as you can and jump over it
2) go downwind and avoid it.
3)"chicken gibe" and catch it...
