Hello Guys:
I am 46yo 6'6"/230-5# advanced intermediate, and sail mainly flat water freestyle here in Texas (live in Austin, will drive 4 hours to the coast for better wind/waves). Danny Aeberli made me the perfect freestyle board. A custom 125 liter Rodeo that covers me 90% of the time.
I am on a mission for the complementary wave board. I sail Severne S-1 4.7-6.3. Never been to Australia, but we do not see real swell here on the gulf coast. Usually, this is the best time of year, when days of southerly flow get suddenly reversed with a northerly cold front blast. Waves 5-6 ft with a short period, gusty 20-25mph winds.
A few years ago (2009), I was in Baja (PSC), renting RRDs (pre Quads). Winds were 15-20mph, real swell generated, but small waves, I mainly sailed a 115 FSW. It was a bore and felt like a boat. We had one day of @20, and I finally sailed the RRD 99 WaveTwin since I knew I would not be slogging, and it was amazing! My first time on a multi-fin board. Super skatey/loose and planed up so easy. I never smiled so much. I later picked up one used a few months later. It is still a sinker for me if the wind is marginal.
It is freaky compact compared to most production boards (designed to be a light wind wave board for the normal sized). 225 X 62. The Nude Chopper 99 is also pretty compact I noticed.
What are it's dimensions? Looks like it has some serious tail kick/rocker too.
Going to Maui soon. I will rent the '12 Goya 104 Quad. I am thinking I need a 110 liter (just a guess), so will also talk to the Quatro guys about custom. I know OES make some bigger boards too.
I am looking for any feedback since it sounds like there are some big Aussies out there that have figured this out. You guys get to sail world-class stuff all the time, and there are no chances for me to demo a board in these big sizes. Just trying to make as smart of a decision as I can.
At 105kg with a multi fin board to cover a wide wind range I'd look at a 110 litre board.
Your going to Maui, you can get to rent and try heaps of boards there. I recon you should talk to the "man" Kieth at quatro He's the leading edge of customs at the moment, get the best get him to make you a custom quad with a similar rockerline and bottom shape to the LS quad at about 62cm wide, get a fraction bigger fins. my 2 cents worth after shaping boards since 86
At 90kg i had a 103l quad made to get me out in 10knots in a few spots that i hate spending any time in the water due to the active marine life around!!!!!, The board is great, does not feel like 103 litres

It's only early but I've not found anything I don't like about it, I'm similar in weight to you and find the 115's float perfect in all but zero wind...only a sparrows f@rt and I'm out through the breakers. It's has excellent upwind performance and is right at home in knee to half mast waves(I've not been in bigger yet) and not to shabby in the bump and jump department as well. This board is a perfect light wind option for the heavy guy, I got myself a SUP to sail before I got the 115 and to be honest I can get out in the same conditions on either but I would prefer hands down to be on my OES....No contest.
try mark stone, he has just got some bigger blanks in and can make up to about 120L, which is what im looking at getting made, i currently own a 107L stone thruster, and the board is absolutely amazing, but im a big fit guy at 112Kg, so for light winds its too small...
but his boards are super fun!!!
I just got back from Maui. I sailed a Goya 104 Quad for 7 days straight. I had a nice email from Pete Ross with sample CAD drawing of a 115 he did. I also got feedback from two guys who have sailed one his 115s in the last year. Thanks guys for that.
I decided to order a 114 liter custom Quatro from Keith. Sitting across the table in person at the Quatro HQ in Maui and talking things over, sealed the deal for me. I enjoyed sailing the Goya 104 Quad, but it confirmed my suspicion that I will be slightly under-boarded if I were to sail at home. Now the wait...

Big and light wind waveboards are always such a difficult choice.
I really left it up to Keith. I felt like he listened pretty well to where I sail, what conditions I see, and what I liked and did not like about the boards I have ridden. I may need to remeasure, but I think the length ended up 234cm-ish. The tail says 114L on it. Width is definitely 64.5cm.
