It seems that Mandurah is at least 10 knots less windy than the rest of the metro area. Is this a fact or is the Mandurah graph wrong?
I am not 100% sure, but I think the wind indicator is at the airport or something? Inland and not at the beach. I think in general mandurah coast is similar wind to Perth beaches/safety bay, but I dont sail there very much, so I could be wrong
The Mandurah weather station is offshore outside the river mouth on the norther side of halls head.
The accuracy of which is only going to go down hill with the increase in high rises which seem to be breeding down here
So it's not to bad from the north or west, but any other direction is iffy?
Certainly though the seabreeze here is a bit lighter than Perth a lot of the time, but not as much as 10kt
conspiracy, [}:)] same as Lan... also why does ocean reef always show direct south on a SW seabreeze....
Thanks, that certainly clarifies the situation.
It would be fantastic if the moderator could post similar google maps of other locations in Perth metro (ie safety sharky bay is always way different to garden island and ocean reef as already mentioned by windy miller)
if you go to
www.bom.gov.au/wa/observations/perth.shtml
then click on each location it will bring up another page with the Lat and long for that location, pump those number into Googlesmurf and you will have them
That's because it's not a BOM sensor, but one Laurie has all his own out there cleverly attached mid way up the third pine tree from the boat ramp
