It seems to be getting worse every year, last year i remember everyone was going on about how wind-less summer was
Eyez still waiting for it to start, lots of up and down da coast in a normal style but missing da fruit when it should have been ripe
.
Been OK here, yes the week long troughs but then plenty of times we had 3-4 days straight, so I reckon I have averaged 2 days per week since Nov.
I have had 3 days on 4.7 whereas usually I am lucky to drag it out out at all unless I go north. So I think maybe we have had a little less days than usual but when we have it has been really windy.
Lot more swell all summer too
I think all considered most people are saying it was a bit better than last so next should see the return of El Nino and it will go off
It was reasonable at Pinnaroo's until the heat wave 2 weeks ago.
From mid-Dec to mid Jan I managed 4-5 sessions per week.
The river looked bad though.
Having said that, plenty of Eastery lately, and the river looked heaps better than the Pinnaroo Point
WEll worst for Mandurah I can remember but having spent nearly a month in shark bay and it being windy every day, and using a 63 litre speed board with a fat 90kg+ body, most days hasnt bin so bad for me, but for Mandurah this summer
Well Im usually out having fun on my big 86L formula board and 5.7m sail but the last 3 months Im happy on my 70L and 4.5m or 5m sail
I've been lucky to have the whole summer to Windsurf up and down the coast. Yes we had some wind and some waves, but I feel these last 2 seasons especially for wave sailing have been bad, hopefully it is la nina effect. But I reckon if we try and defend WA and say it has been good, then we are telling people from overseas this is what we class as 'good' conditions, not the reputation WA needs!
If you have been prepared to chase the conditions and have a choice of wave boards, you could get a lot of sailing in, and there has been some great conditions about, but we are not getting the consistency of wind or waves WA has been known for....
For me: 20 days of windsurf (83L + 5.3, 4.7 and even 4.2 twice) over 2 months (jan-feb), I had some good waves too:
- 6 at Safety bay / Shoalwater bay with dolphins
- 4 at Lancelin (2 at south passage, 2 at main break), pretty good waves
- 3 at Geraldton (1 at Sunset, 1 at Hell's gate, 1 at Drummond Cove)
- 1 at Margaret River, Main break, big waves, my best day in WA
- 2 at Augusta, river mouth with a 4.2 (and Pete Volwater)
- 1 at Albany
- 3 at Esperance (1 fourth beach, 2x9 Observatory Beach), small but excellent waves
I enjoyed a lot WA, I hope to come back in the future, but France is really far far away... You are lucky to live in such a wonderfull place... So don't be sad about 2 years with a bit less wind !!!
If I should come back, I will stay only at Margaret River and Esperance, and I will go to Gnaraloo / Ningaloo
I'm now leaving WA, heading for NZ (and Hawaii after...)
See ya !
