19th November.. big forecast.. headed down to margs hoping the southerly forecast came in.. it did.. overpowered on 4.4 but the swell was very westerly and random.. huge closeouts and ocean swells breaking in random places.. particularly in the normal runout zone between margs mains and the river mouth..
2 mad folk out.. cory was one of them, didnt catch the other guys name. Both good sailors though
Cory got caught inside riding on a wave right out the back from the reef - gear swept away towards the river mouth.. it came in and then got dragged out towards the box with the current.., amazingly just got caught in a way on the north point of the reef leading out to the boulders out there and washed in on the reef flat.
Exhausted (i assume) rider followed the same path. ~40minutes later after the most brutal pounding ive seen in a long time - he washed up safely on the northern edge of the beach from the river mouth. I watched carefully through the telephoto, but there was nothing any of us could really do to help - with the random whitewalls rolling in...
pretty extreme..IMHO
Me and a couple of other fellas took the less extreme option and sailed out from the boatramp and had some wicked 1-1.5 mast waves on a random inside reef just north of the ramp - overpowered on 4.4s
Can you see the tip of the blue sail between the waves in the middle of the photo above, just behind the wave crest of the front wave - gives you an idea of the size and trough depth.
Spot the head...
Awesome photos mate!
just goes to show that its a pretty crazy spot when its firing.
im still not keen to sail there.
nahh.., when its firing it looks like this..
courtesy of mr volwater filling my camera lens after my arms had fallen off from sailing for hours..
Just remember the only thing that s gona rescue in that weather is a chopper....
Been there done that lost all my gear apart from my board spent hour and a half drinking seawater and nearly drowned and swept out to sea.I realized that no one was going to save me...
;-S
im happy to watch now when its that crazy well done fellas NO_FEAR.
when you enter the water obviously your not afraid to loose gear.
