Just a reminder about some of the Hazards

The "Rock Garden" or with the tides they are at the moment "The zone of death"

Whenever we have one of these events there is normally one or two people who sail through the rock garden and luckily only destroy a fin, so stay away from the posted area, if in doubt ask one of the "Locals"

Here's a Vid we made on a very low tide showing most of the rocks we dodge

When sailing in close to shore,
UNHOOK and GET OUT OF FOOTSTRAPS
It can get real shallow real quick.
If you hit the bottom hard, let go fall backwards like a starfish and you should be (in theory) ok and your mast shouldn't smash your board.

Weed
Unfortunately with all the tourists terrorists down on holidays there is lots of fine weed floating around in the water so if you have weedies bring them.
These terrorists also like crabbing so in technical terms there can be sh1tloads of crab nets out there with lovely floating PP rope lines on the good crab nets have nice visible floats the bad ones are when the boaties use clear bottles, bad for pointers ok for weedies.

Wild life
Crabs,
Small aggressive ones are close to the shore, it is acceptable to squeal like a biatch when they ambush your feet (I do)

Stingrays,
Haven't seen any (or hit any) for weeks but they out there

Sharks,
yep them to, couple of small ones spotted near the boat stuck on the sand bar across the bay, realistically be more concerned about d1ckheads in boats

Cobblers,
Hide in weed, don't jump of your board and land on your feet in the weed, swirl your feet around a bit before putting them down first, if you can avoid walking through the weed then that's even better.
If you do have the misfortune of treading on one and you haven't done so before you are in for an interesting experience.
Heat is the best way to negate the toxin, I will have some air activated heat packs which I keep in my car and will also give some to the organizers.
The local chemist sells these and wheat filled heat packs which are good for use around the house when you get home.

Excited - yes, knowledge- very little

Elmo, Can you help ?

Hows the chop on a seabreeze? like Swan Rv/melville mid river?
How much upwind is needed? slight pinch, 1 tack or 2 tacks
How broad is it off wind? 140deg , 100deg or 90 both ways
Whats prefered board by the Muppet man? on that course?

Chop more regular than the river in the middle and much flatter at the ends.
Hoping to do a 90 degree course but depends on the wind. Could be slightly up / downwind on alternate legs.
I would go a bigger board unless it is nuking as you will find it easier to get through lulls and stay upwind but it won't be as fast.

Thanks for the info Elmo, or are you trying to scare us all off so you have the place to yourself?

G'day Toby
If like last time, 1 run either way no tacking up wind. 7km is a leg burner and you find out exactly what is not rigged right.

Chop Like Lao shi said is in the middle, all depends on whether the tide is coming in or not.

Re board size, choose the right one! 7km legs are rather painful if you choose the wrong one.

re the far gybe mark, it's over the horizon so you don't know where it is and you just hope the people you are following are heading the right way as well, last time you couldn't see it till you were 3/4's of the way into the leg

Anita, we would never try to scare you off, have tried before, it doesn't work

Will the Start Boat/Line have the gybe mark compass heading displayed?

Hope it's generally,

There's the platform, aim up wind from that and about 3km past it

Devil fish are also common, a small fish with a an initial sting similar to a cobbler, but only lasts 5 to 10 minutes, often a victim when drag netting for prawns, ouch, found in weedy/seagrass areas

It was more than 13-15 knots, i'd say 13-18,no sub planning lulls.

Overpowered a little on my 6.5m,changed down to my 5.6m after 4pm when the breeze hit 20 plus.

Outside mark set touch downwind, return leg only just made it.

Sailed till nearly 7pm.Not a bad place to sail, shallow chop but chop is everywhere. Not easy conditions for sailing fast, river is sweeter for sure.

Jasper was on 7.9m and 82cm board.

Great event, very enjoyable, exhausted and relieved on last leg.

Shame these marathons cannot be held hour or so later, seabreeze doesn't really pickup till after 3pm?

errr yes there were. Even isaaaaaaac and jesper couldnt get planing at one point- for about 20 seconds. Wind probably hit 18 at times.

Great event :) and thanks to everybody organising it etc,,

I used the F2 SX 82 / 135L with KArace 7.9 and Vector Volt G10 42cm.

Wind was just fine for this set-up, and only one time on the inside mark we went into a patch of no wind, like Chris mentioned.
