Hi All , im a bit of an eccentric polystyrene collector . Really I like the old custom epoxy boards and have a bit of a collection of Styrotechs as well as 6 Wind techs ( Pro lites , speed boards and a newly acquired Wind Tech Bump and jump)
Would like to know any thoughts or memories you guys have of what I think are still magnificent if somewhat old boards.
Thanks for the memories !

Old skool! After years of ogling through magazines, finally decided to get a custom glass slalom wind tech in 1995 (or thereabouts), as opposed to wave scalpel from gero.. Picked it up n a rainy thursday night from the osbourne park "factory" and stil remember the new board smell... Sold it to a mate of a mate to replace with a slalom 900 circa 2000 - still regret it... Thought this new board was the ducks nuts... May have slept with it... Some good years of racing mates it got traded for some wave gear... Unfortunately not one of the gnarly wind tech wave boards sporting the goats skull that made Scotty popular at the time...

Love wind tech.. It shaped my sailing life...

If anyone finds an old yellow and blue slalom glass board under their house or in the back of an old shed let me know... My wife will be forever grateful... Not.

I have a Windtech 8'10" slalom ordered new from Neil, back when? I've rubbed it back, resprayed and regripped and will be returning it to the water very soon.
Only cosmetically fixed, still undinged.
Great board. Always felt right at home on it. Will be looking forward to racing some of the modern boards and seeing how it compares and see what GPS results i can get out of it.
Actually, just getting back on the water will be great. :)

More Bovine than Bovidae, methinks..

Hey Wayne, I restored a 900 earlier this year...we should get a mob of WindTech owners together for some drag racing sometime soon..I know a few others would be keen..

Ive got one that looks like that. I think its called a 920 Pro-lite?? It's back home and I am now in Perth.

Ive never sailed it because its got a different type of air vent screw and I don't have one to suit. I had it hanging on the wall of me house as decoration.
Now its just me mates shed.

Hey Stone,
Let me know if you want to let go of it..I'd love a ProLite! Vent screw is an easy fix..use a SS or brass screw with a hacksaw cut groove down the thread with a rubber washer or a small o-ring.
Cheers!

Orright, lets get a crew together! I'm a pretty chunky 95kg these days and the 900 is good for a 18-25 river blast....unless I manage to get hold of a ProLite 920 in the mean time

Still got my original Wind Tech T-Shirt too that i wore with pride. :)
Sadly i no longer have either of my boards.
One was a second hand powder blue fibreglass.
That set me on the path and i had made for me an 8'10" epoxy.
Great boards.

There's a guy who surfs (yes, no sail) a beat-up one of these at Scarbs/Contacios. Says he found it on the verge / tip shop, I can't remember. My advice, from bitter experience, don't drop in on him

I got a hand-me-down about then that had been made for Peter Dans(25) as recall..round nose..affectionately named The Gummy. The bloke I sold it to has it in storage somewhere here in Perth. I think there is a pic of me on it somewhere..will dig it out

What was the difference between the Kinetic labelled and the normal Windtech? I had a Kinetic (can't remember the size but bigger than 8'10") and never really liked it, compared to my 8'10 which i love.

Here is 'The Gummy' in action at Nedlands..late '91.. complete with ex Trevor Wright Wild Winds 5.5ish..back when a 5.5 could get you going in 15-18kn!

Edit : Neil informes me that The Gummy was the first EPS foam sandwich board Wind Tech produced. I just tracked down the current owner and he reckons if he can find it I can have it..stoked! fingers and toes crossed..

I have some great memories of my first real board, a Windtech/Kinetic 8'6" as a 13 year old in the late 90's.

The board was a rocket ship.

I remember learning to do chop hops on the river on it and putting my knee through the board on the first week of school holidays and being devastated finding out that I would miss the next month of sailing with 10 stitches in my leg. I remember melting the foam trying to do my first board repair mistakenly using fiberglass resin.

The next year I decided I wanted to learn to wavesail, but dad made me stick it out for 2 years on this thing out in the surf at mettams pool as he had only bought it the previous season. It had zero rocker, and I don't think I made a bottom turn the whole time!

A few years later I bought this board out of retirement to give the ledge to lancelin a crack. I got a flying start of the beach and managed to make it to the first mark with all my idols before being pegged back but managed to finish the race and take out the juniors that year.

Hi Wayne - sounds like you may have finished you renovation project? If you want to finish the board off nicely with the original mylar stickers let me know as we have stock of full sets in various colours..the serial number, mast positions and model name and number you will need to carefully leave on the board if you can or I know where you could get them made in vinyl as per original.
I can also have a look at the rocker for you and make sure its still sound so you can get the most out of the board. Happy to help in any case
Cheers mate, have fun with it!

Here's the 920 Pro lite.

If they are as fast as you guys reckon I should try it out. It's a bit rough and had a few repairs.

Cheers

Hi Adam
Actually i finished it a few years ago but just haven't sailed or had the conditions to get it out.
Thanks for the offer of decals etc but i managed to keep the originals in place.
I'll keep it in mind though.
Yeah, one day i'll get you to look it over and see how it's faired.
Cheers

There's a windtech wave board on the curb in wilaggee.. Double stringer glass, so not very tech.. pretty good nick, I was gonna pick it up, but then I thought 'this thing is rubbish' and got in my car and drove off.. Think the council is picking it up today for any collector's out there..

Cheers Barn, try Scott McKercher - he was pretty involved in the 'Tech' elements of those wave boards..could have been one of his! Recently one of Scott's Pro Lite course boards he won PWA events was found on a verge. Still watertight and in good shape. Amazing considering the light construction.
