My wife and I were coming back from rotto yesterday arvo at 4 pm. There were 2 windsurfers flying along right next to the ferry with a helicopter flying low over head. Anyone know these guys? And was the helicopter filming them?

I've been out of windsurfing for years now, who are those guys? Locals?

Col films and takes photos. Pete rides for Fanatic https://www.fanatic.com/content/team/windsurfing_int/peter_volwater/index_eng.html#.UStuj78ayc0 and usually pretty good in the surf. Not too sure about Chris as I'm not into flat water racing stuff but I'm pretty sure Chris is one of the fastest windsurfers in Australia? Maybe cracked 50 knots?
Someone else may be able to fill you in

Nah, too much gear, too much $, not enough time. Will stick with sup and ski paddling. But I did enjoy watching those fellas flying along the other day

Equipment is getting so good these days that you need far less gear than years gone by. For flatish water and small waves you could get away with one free style wave board. A second hand board, few sails, boom, mast. All second hand is probably no more than one new SUP board.

Perhaps but with young kids, I'm after family friendly. With my 14 foot board, I can paddle for fitness, cruise with my kids on the front, down wind. That ticks the most boxes for me at this stage of life.
Love watching the windsurfing though!

Seriously dude. Why do you feel so inadequate?

It's a different sport. Who cares if it was faster, slower, or from 15m in the air.
