Next outing... Melville Beach, Applecross this Saturday 20th. Bring the family, food, toys and fun! I have a couple of kids wndsurfing rigs I'll bring down but please bring any manner of floating or flying craft you have to add to the mix!

There's no way you'll get my wife and kids out of the car on a day like is forecast. 
Well my 5yo would love to. I think summer time is a better season to introduce them to windsurfing.
If it stays like this, i will be heading out to palm beach though. sweet sweet northerlies.

Yes it might be a bit woolly for some but if nothing else I have kites to fly!
Don't forget the Safety Bay Windsurfing Club. We are a social windsurfing club, it is a great way to meet other windsurfers, for someone to sail with, exchange advice and tell stories. It is also a good way to get your non-windsurfing partners & spouses involved and to get them to meet your windsurfing friends. We have had quite a few children pass through the club, getting the benefit of help from experienced windsurfers who are keen to share their love of the sport. Some of those children are now very accomplished young adult windsurfers.
The club has a beginner's board and a tandem board for members to borrow. If we have sufficient interest from members and sufficient funds we could consider purchasing more learner's equipment.
The club will be starting new memberships in Spring, so if you are interested check the website out in a few months for more information on the coming season.

Thanks for the info SBWC! Definitely not forgotten, you guys are doing it for real!! The idea with this is to feed regional clubs with potential new members as well as introducing families from different regions so that we can swell ranks and momentum.
There are already social groups gathering at Safety Bay, Pinnaroo/Mullaloo, Peli Pt/Nedlands, Melville/Applecross not to mention Lancelin, Gero, Easperance, as I'm sure there are in all the other other regions with rideable water!??
Hey SBWC what about picking a date for us to come and visit, or even a pre-season Windsurf/kite/SUP combined family day on your patch? I'm so keen on combining the factions on social events too like season opening and closing parties, and also regional comps eventually...all for the gravy
Gee, I haven't been looking at the forum for some weeks.... M.O.B. this is definitely interesting, I am trying to get my 4 y.o. daughter to swim safely and once this is achieved windsurfing will be the next step.
I will be following this thread from now on and try to join you guys soon, even if it?s without gear, the social dimension is also attractive. Although I just moved into a new house and have an overwhelming list of DIY to do during the weekends, I will try to take breaks and come along with my daughter and hopefully the wife too!

I am with you on the swimming safely, my bow LOVES having the one on one session where hr gets to retrieve objects from the bottom of the pool etc. I recommend getting a kids rig and a board set up on dry land at the same time..old board of any kind and you can find complete rigs, some with two sizes of sail that will last several years for $470-$600..obviously pre-loved gear is much cheaper!..pretty good value in the scheme of things especially when several families can share initially..

Also if you are keen to put an extra fin box in a kids board to stabilise it I can show you where & how if you want to do it yourself or I can pop it in neat and tidy for you!
My daughter used an older evolution360 for her introduction to the sport.The earlier models have a centre finbox.
Great board ,30-40 l more volume than the starsurfer/kode/young guns ect. and with tiny fins it can be rig steered with a 1m sail. My son would love a board of that volume for flowstyling ,so whoever buys it,don't sell it when your child needs a smaller board to learn to plane.They will still need it again for mastering skills/moves before trying them on a smaller board.
Hey all, we have a few families heading down to Jackadder Lake in Woodlands around 10am this Saturday for a playdate for the kids..I'll have some kids rigs to play with there so come down! Heaps of play equipment and space to run..and bbq and undercover area.. more the merrier! Let us know and we'll keep an eye out for you..we will be easy to spot!

I have a very keen young bloke about to turn 7 and he's just had a few lessons in Maui, so I thought I'd relay the experience.
Firstly, Maui is a fairly tough place to learn. It's beautiful, with a white sandy beach, warm waters and nice scenery, but on the flipside the water gets deep very close to shore, it's mostly VERY windy even in the mornings, and there is only a short sheltered area before it's gets rough. This means kids can only sail a short distance and then have to turn around and sail back in, which gets a bit repetitive.
The good thing is that there are always plenty of kids (and adults) learning, the instructors are really good and the kids have a great time mucking around, playing pirates etc, so the two hour lessons flies by pretty quickly.
It was music to my ears when, after two lessons, I heard the words "Daddy can I go windsurfing?"
Anyway, being six years old didn't seem to be any impediment to being able to sail in winds up to 20 knots. Jonah is now as keen as can be, very proud of what he has learned, and able to cruise around in the harness and make plenty of gybes without falling off.
We have bought him a kids rig with a couple of sails (1.6 & 2.1) and will get him a board soon. He'll be very keen to hook up with any other kids who are keen as soon as the weather warms up. I reckon we'll be down at Melville Beach mainly as it's super safe there.
Kids love to learn with other kids so hopefully there will be a few others around to sail with. Jonah will be happy to share his gear around, and make a few new friends.

Kids seeing other kids windsurfing helps children see that windsurfing is not just for adults. Its often difficult to find other kids to learn with,but its great to show them videos to hype them up before summer.

I am looking to get back into windsurfing, first stepped onto a board around 25 years ago, spent many years as an instructor around the world, now live in Perth and have 3 kids/ 3,7,12. I have been out of the sport for around 5 years and would love to get the kids involved. the wife windsurfed with me 10 years ago and would also love to get back onto it. the kids have been introduced into windsurfing with Robby naish R.I.P video which got me hooked years ago. I will keep an eye out for the next meeting if there is one soon.

Lets get this happening. I have a 100w formula board and 3.0 xs-1, 3.7 S1 (which everyone can have a go at). My young fellas in a harness and planing at 12, little bloke is 10 and just starting. My wife is keen to SUP and see the boys get into a sport that has put a smile on my dial for so long...
. What's the plan from here??

I believe Safety Bay windsurfing club are having an open day event December or January that could be could we can all plan to meet at as well?!
This Saturday arvo looks spot-on with a 12-15 seabreeze!
I'll be down at Melville Beach from around 3 with the young fella, as will my mate Craig with his 9 year-old.
More kids are welcome and feel free to take our gear for a spin. The more kids there are, the keener they will be.
Put in the investment now and the windsurfing trip to Gnaraloo for a wave sail with your kids when they are 13 will be one step closer to reality!
