this is icy:

Here, in Croatia, winter is eating us, so there is less and less activity for us on GTC.
So, not for all, our member Andrej, member of Croatian team (Slovenian part)
SLO Zusterna Speedhunterz www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au/team/view/46
was surfing yesterday on cold bora (with gusts of 100 km/h) and snow, and
check out this photo:
What to say.... Andrej, you got very big balls (or at this point of temperature, very smallone)

For your information this guy set up a forum post on our Dutch website. That is if you are referring to Peter Vernet, one of our long distance sailors. Opened up a topic on our dutch forum and so far 5 guys replied saying they would very much like to enter his team. I am one of the guys and hope we will finally succeed to set up a team. If one Dutch team enters I'm sure more will follow. Peter excused himself for not understanding all that had ben written to him in English. Would it be ok for you if I send you an e-mail if people post question about the team challenge on the forum?

Just a thought about our International teams.
I've just finished reading this post from Croatia,
www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au/sailor_session/show?date=2009-12-23&team=40
Seems the teams in colder climes are at a big disadvantage as far as an all year challenge is concerned.
After all the challenge was set up for Australian conditions, where our speed strips don't ice up in Winter.

Just wondering how hard it would be to set up another category, say a best month, no particular month as the season cups are. Just which team has the best monthly result in the year.
Guess you would have to compare the 12 1sts for the year somehow.
This would remove the need to have year round consistent conditions.

Great idea Decrepit....up here in the Gorge our two speed courses have already frozen over this year and the wind has shut down until the spring. Wouldn't really be fair to jet off to Maui or Texas and record speeds there until it thaws out. A monthly challenge for "Top Gun" GTC team seems like a good prize to play for. I feel the need.....

My idea was to have a couple of months that may suit the northern hemisphere teams and have some cups on offer for those months also!!

For sure Evets, as long as the GTC can level the playing field and give the northerners something to play for I don't see why not. As most places have 4-6 good months of wind why not count your best six monthly results for the Inter Cup and give the teams a reason to participate. I know it's fun to compete but it's even more fun to win. We've got the Ham Challenge (www.gps-speedsailing.com)running up here which will be expanding in the New Year so the times can be posted to both places.

Tell me your best months, I've asked the Euro's to tell me theirs, and I'll put on at least 2 monthly Cups for the International version.

Personally I don't really like the idea of handicaps of any sort for the challenge. If a handicap is given for cold conditions will a handicap be given for windless months? This year I could not go sailing between February and September due to injury. I missed out on about ten days of decent sailing in Sydney.

Any handicap will give preferential treatment for one set of conditions or group of sailors to the detriment of others. Some Australia sailors are travelling around Australia to get the best conditions.

IF the GTC International Cup will proceed with an Handicap system,
"to be internationally fair" the New Zealand Speed Runs request a fair handicap for the years the southern storms do not happen in our land of water & wind.

We may be able to sail year round, but without wind we are no different from those with frozen sailing venues!!! that de ice in there Northern Season & then there Northern wind blows most days of the week!!!

Basically we're facing the same problem with our evaluated ranking which is year round. Personally I feel it would be great to have six discards for the year for each rider and only count the best six months to make it a more level playing field for everyone in the world. If you look at our evaluated ranking it's mostly Dutch riders at the top and it takes the concept away from the international spirit of our site. Discards are common in windsurfing and sailing anyhow, so why not use them to make it easier for interested people to enter the competition. We're currently discussing this so I follow this discussion with great interest.

I hope you succeed in getiing people interested in the GPSTC website regardless of future rules. At least one Dutch team seems to enter GPSTC coming year which is great and I truly hope many will follow. And at least we have been able to sail year round the last couple of years so that aspect shouldn't be a big problem for our contry. But indeed North America or for instance Sweden which has some big windsurfingclubs and a relatve big speedsurfing populalation, why would they feel the need to enter an International team competition if beforehand they know they don't stand a chance.

I think the GPSTC concept is brilliant. Bringing back team spirit or windsurfing club spirit like most countries had in the past is bringing back some kind of family atmosphere. If you want to make it work World Wide you need to take into account the fact that most countries in the World have only got a limited amount of windsurfing time/months. Just my two cents

I wasn't thinking of handicapping anybody, just adding another, category, to quote roo of "top gun team".
Open to everybody equally, but only taken over 1 month, each teams best month.

I'm hearing from the Northern Hemisphere Teams that it may be impossible for them to ever win a 12 month event bec of the conditions. That is a valid point, we want participation, we dont want to discourage participation. Will have to think about it more, and discuss with Nebbs.

Certainly something Like an International May and September/October Cup may be something everyone can compete for? Need feedback on the months that work well up north. And maybe the dreaded discard for the overall??? Have to think about it
