Hi All
im looking at a second hand BIC techno 148 L (75cm wide) as a step up from by old HiFly longboard. I weight 95kgs. I can tack and gybe and always uphaul has have to learn waterstarts. Most of the sailing will be in the lake at this point anyway. Looking to learn blasting, carve gybes and water starts. Will this work for me. Keen for your thoughts - thanks for your thoughts ??.

What wind range?
Looking for replacement or keep the BIC for lighter days?
depends on how much they want. if it's cheap, cant go that far wrong with the techno as a progression board.

I think the BiC is what he is looking at. I suggest its perfect, the only downside is at your weight it will be a handful on good planing days.... that will mean carve gybes are harder to commit to at the start of the turn and the volume will enable you to keep bad habits. So yes, good step down board from the HiFly but for 20kn plus days a 120L freeride will be a great addition.
I am far from an expert. What wind forces? I also sail in lake, low wind, typical good day is 12 to 15kt mid wind speed but realy unstable going from 5 to 25. At same level as you i quickly feel "easier", with a longer narrower (old ahd diamond race 270?67 - 148l) than a short wide board (starboard go 237?83 - 144l).

Great, that's good to hear. I was a little concerned of it being only 75cm wide as a lot of the modern freerides are wider. Also I thought it will be harder to uphaul on than the wider boards - maybe it's something I just have to get used to? My current Hifly is 70cm wide (but it's really long with dagger board) so it should be easier than that, or at least the same.
I have also just bought an Exocet Nano 135 for my daughter and son to step down to after they have learnt a little more on the Hifly so figured that'd be my next go to from the BIC.
im sailing at Lake Macquarie so wind in summer pretty good at around 15-20 on good days, 10-15 on average. Winter will depend on the southerlies or super gusty westerlies. Good days 20knts+, light days I'll take out the old Hifly.
id love to go to starboard or rocket but pretty hard to find second hand and around our area. Thanks so far for your thoughts, can be pretty confusing looking at all the new gear as have been out of the action for far too long!!
The Nano and Techno are going to have almost exactly the same windrange. Both will be uphaulable although the wider tail on the Nano will make it easier to uphaul in spite of the lower volume. It'll also jibe more smoothly. The Bic will slide onto a plane more easily if there's enough wind, because it's longer, but the Exocet will pump up a little better. Both are fine choices for a next step although in most respects the Nano will be easier and more fun.

Thanks, sounds really good. Don't think I can go too far wrong then. Hoping my Daughter will be out with me on the Nano so fine to give her the better option. ???? I'll try the Techno in the mean time.

I generally sail Coal Point or Valentine.
