I'm disappointed that the Goya Fringe has been discontinued. I suppose it wasn't a popular sail since it's been discontinued and there are many used ones or new ones on sale. I weigh 68kg and have used the Fringe for bump and jump as well as onshore wave sailing for a couple of years. What other sail brands offer a similar feel?
KS3 perhaps?
Plus one for the KS3. I own both the Fringe and the KS3 and I also used to own the Goya Banzai. I only ever like the Fringe for underpowered slog and ride conditions. I always thought the Banzai was better for bump and jump conditions. The KS3 feels like the Fringe in slog and ride conditions, very light in the hands but easy to pump onto a wave. But in planing conditions it feels more like the Banzai, with a locked in feel. But the KS3 stays light in the hands while the Banzai can feel more physical. The COE tends to wonder around with the Fringe in stronger winds, but not with the KS3 or the Banzai.
I'd say it's quite popular sail, at least in this corner of the world - everybody and their dog has a set of fringes for wave riding : ) And it works wonderfully in strong and ultra light winds alike. I have been using Fringes pretty exclusively since the release of the very first model, and wondered the same thing. Apparently the Banzai Surf is the way to go now.
Just bought another set of fringes , but will look out for ks3 to try, the idea of the sail and brand look mega cool ,but hard to get in the UK
