am looking to switch insurers and wondering who offers home and contents that covers my gear on the road. Tips and tricks!!
With Youi contents insurance you can have optional Contents Accidental Loss Or Damage cover which covers your contents on the home, away, and on the road. Few exclusions so read the PDS.

tips for business insurance for me as essentially a tradie but I have other peoples gear at my workshop?
quotes are horrific
i can't understand why business contents insurance is 6x the cost of home for about 1/3 of the value. Nor why the public liability component is so cheap! I can't afford to insure against fire or burglary but it's cheap to have $10mil cover for dumb sh!t I might go
that's weird!

You can leave all your boards at my place

Highly likely because the number claims and pay outs are 6x that of home contents insurance. It's all just some maths with risk and money. In a work place, it's just more likely for events to occur.
Commercial burglaries and fires seem to to be about on par or less than residential.
I want to insure $10K tools and $40K customer boards that's it. And the premium is way more than 6x the price of insuring $120K home contents (I was just speaking in rough terms before).
Stoopid, the actuary needs a reality check.... or they are profiteering and businesses don't dare not have ins and its a tax writeoff (unlike your home ins)
Surely there is a basic cheaper work insurance...?
A long time ago and in a different country, I got quotes for business insurance. Just a bit of computer equipment (much less than your stuff) and liability, but it was prohibitively expensive - multiple times the cost of ensuring the entire house. So I ended up not getting business insurance, and saved tens of thousands over the years. I had a similar experience with tax return preparation, where many places would charge a high multiple for a simple business return compared to a personal return of similar complexity.
Interestingly, a friend who is a jeweler recently said that his business insurance is not very expensive (and his store has been cleared out in riots a few years ago). Could be his standards are different, though, since he has to pay 5 figures every month for rent.
I checked nrma, racq, youi and suncorp.
im most likely going to split car (to youi) and home and contents to racq. For contents away from home, which was the point of the thread, Youi's coverage seemed to be the best for what I was chasing but it's expensive. NRMA was more expensive again for similar coverage. Suncorp (computer) hung up on me.m so they are dead to me. RACQ is whom I'll most likely get contents with due to price but I have to list items that are taken out of the home to get extra coverage for those items. That said they are 2/3 the price of the others for what I was chasing
if it helps anyone else I compared apples with apples. Hours of my life I'll never get back.

Yep, dead to me too, for different reason. must be run by complete nitwits!
They had a third-party agency contact me (via phone) re: a refund due to me in relation to premiums paid. Wanting to refund to my bank account and for some reason couldn't /wouldn't simply credit towards next premium. Nor could he disclose the amount in question!
Naturally, I thought "SCAM" and contacted Suncorp directly. Incredibly, it turned out that everything the guy said was actually true!!
But, with only a couple of dollars being the amount in question, no way would I be giving bank details to receive this refund. Rather look to a change of insurer ASAP, as that's surely no way to do business.
Hours of my life I'll never get back, too!
