Haven't hear any comment or info about the Olympic sailing on here and finding it a bit difficult to get much info
Breiana Whitehead is going
Are no men going or didn't they qualify
I thought there was quite a large racing scene
Begins on the 4th August and if conditions are good will end on the 6th. Formula Kite - Hector Paturau (WA) Scott Whitehead (QLD) Breiana Whitehead (QLD)
Possibly the first and last time for kites in the Olympics, the rumour is that wing foil racing will replace it.

Breiana is the only Australian competitor - she has had some great recent results as well as winning the Princess Sofia regatta (widely considered one of the premier Olympic class regattas in the lead up to the games)
I do not think a male competitor qualified for the games - that in itself is ridiculously difficult
Good luck to Breiana ??
Sadly, I'll be very surprised if kitefoil racing gets much of a mention on MSM here in Aus. But I hope I'm wrong. Surely they could make the effort to put at least some highlights up on TV?
Maybe a few less interviews with athletes from the more mainstream sports (or their families, or other random spectators) to make time for the less-known sports?
Anyhow. Go Breiana!!
I hope she wins the gold and gets a bit of well-earned recognition.
Apparently the way for a niche sport to get some media coverage is have someone get close to winning a medal.
Grae Morris is at the top of the IQfoil fleet, now suddenly there's some coverage on free to air. I didn't know kayak slalom was a thing, then Jess Fox started winning medals, and there it is on prime time.
Not a teabagger, but I'd probably watch some kite foil racing. They run circles around just about everything else in the west.
All best to Breiana!
Replacing kite foiling with wing foiling?? Most racing in 2024 was in very light conditions, next time who knows, but racing in all wind conditions needs to be a factor. Constantly rotating novelty sports do no-one much good.

I hear that end of 2025, World sailing is licencing the equipment for kite foil racing in the 2028 olympics :)
Wing foiling is a sensible idea. The moths and other foiling sailing boats are as efficient but more expensive to get into the sport.
However, locally, there are more sailing races (and even a small moth fleet) for sailors to get involved in so until wing foil racing breaks into the local race scene its unlikely to make it.
