Hi All! I'm from WA and will be going on a worktrip to Brisbane on the 28th of Oct. I am thinking of extending the trip for a few days to experience some of your magic kite spots! Where would be a good spot to travel to as I am happy to leave Brisbane to visit a different kite spot?
Hi Nick, based on my limited experienced kiting around Brisbane, the biggest issue you will have is finding suitable wind. Expect mostly light wind sessions. Use the kite spot filter on Windy.com or check out location guides on Google for Brisbane. If you are going to travel with lots of gear and only have a few days to kite, it could simply not be worth the hassle.
I'm not from Brisbane but have spent a lot of time there. From my limited experience it's hit and miss. When the SE is on it can be cranking 28kts all day every day, but then nothing for a few weeks. My fave spot is Caloundra. Flat water tidal lagoons, or waves outside. A kiting playground. Hour north of Brisbane. Anywhere in Brisbane on the bay is muddy & choppy, its OK.
Late October is our northerly season, so depending what your keen on, downwinder on the Sunny or Gold Coast. You can utilise public transport buses to get you back upwind for another run.
Or locally around Brisbane the Redcliffe peninsula is pretty good, head to the northern tip for flat water TT fun or mid peninsula for swell riding and bumps.
