Chasing the worlds fastest fish.
It’s hard enough to find a sailfish when you want to catch one, let alone position a supermodel in a pair of flippers amongst an entire school of them.
But that’s what Roberta Mancino and a team of talented fisherman plus a brave camera man managed to do off the coast of Mexico earlier this month, and the results are spectacular.
Miss Mancino is one of the worlds most high profile extreme sports athletes, who mostly spends her time jumping off rock faces with a wingsuit on. She’s also into the more conventional form of skydiving and some other extreme activities, but she’s never dived with sailfish before.
Sailfish (or Istiophorus for those who speak latin) are one of the fastest fish in the world, capable of speeds up to 110kph thanks to a slender body, elongated bill and retractable dorsal fin, which looks like a sail when extended. You know what we’re talking about, these fish are some of the most incredible looking animals you’ll see, and every fisherman would relish the opportunity to reel one in.
But for now, there’s not a hook in sight, just a pretty lady swimming around with some of the rarest, and most elegant marine life in the world. Spare a thought for Shawn Heinrichs too, the camera man who was underwater with Mancino and filmed the whole endeavor. Check it out!
Oh, and if you’re wondering why this happened. Because they can. Roberta Mancino has her own web series called Robertalicious, and this is episode 5.
