New Bag limits for NSW Anglers

Be mindful of how many you’re keeping.
This week a couple of new rules came into effect for Anglers in NSW, with the Department of Primary Industries revising bag limits, and permitting certain types of Recreational fishing where it has been banned in the past.

Of most importance for recreational anglers, is the new bag limits for Flathead, Bream, Tailor, Blue Swimmer Crabs, Trevallies and Luderick. Previously the bag limit was 20 fish, but as of this week the number has been halved, with the new bag limit being 10, with a total of 20 in possession.

These popular, and abundant species of fish are the kinds you’ll find fishing off jetties, rocks or in your tinny on the bay, so if you’re having a good day on the water, just be mindful of how many you’re keeping!

On a better note for those who enjoy a real crab salad occasionally, the limit for crab traps has been raised from one, to two, as long as each one is marked with the anglers name, birth date and postcode. Security must have been a concern, as this requirement was changed from requiring the anglers full name and address in the past.

In Fresh water, watch out for new Murray Cod size limits, they’ve been capped at a maximum size of 75cm to provide protection for large breeding fish. On the lower limit, they need to be 55cm to keep, so it’s quite a narrow margin if you want to take one home. The catch and release of larger sizes is of course permitted.

There are a few additional minor changes, so have a read through the DPI website for the full list here.
