New rules for Queensland amberjack, samsonfish and mahi mahi

Recreational anglers are being reminded that new rules for catching amberjack, samsonfish and mahi mahi in Queensland are now in place with minimum size limits being reduced to 50cm for all three species:

  • Amberjack and samsonfish has been lowered from 75cm to 50cm
  • Mahi mahi (dolphinfish) has been lowered from 60cm to 50cm

After consultating with key stakeholder groups including recreational and commercial anglers, charter operators and conservation groups about the changes changes it was decided that there lowering the sizes would have a profitability benefit for the industry but at the same time fish stocks would remain sustainable. All three species reproduce well and have fast growth rates.
