After an extensive community consultation period South Australia's Fisheries are informing freshwater anglers that from 1 January 2011 to 31 July 2011 Murray Cod will be available for catch and release fishing.
 
Strict rules are still in place which include not being allowed to lift the fish from the water, fish cannot be targeted during the spawning period (1 Aug - 31 Dec), anglers are also unable to target fish trolling from a moving boat.
 
Catch and release fishing does not apply for the Chowilla region of the river, this is still completely closed.
