South-west Vic angler assistance request for mulloway study
Victoria's Department of Sustainability and the Environment (DSE) is asking anglers in the Glenelg River to be alert for tagged mulloway recently released into the river system as part of a 3-year project to increase knowledge of the species' movement through the river.
Anglers who catch one of the thirty tagged mulloway are being asked to record the the tag number, date of capture, location and length of the fish before returning it to the river and sending the information through to the Arthur Rylah Institute of the DSE.
If a decision is made to keep the fish then it's requested the tag is also sent with the information recorded and if possible the head and internal organs frozen and pickup arranged.
It is anticipated the study will be helpful through its examination of fish movement and its relationship with amounts of dissolved oxygen, water flow and temperature and salinity levels throughout the river.
