The fastest woman to 'catch 'em all', couldn't seem them!
A cast like that isn’t a big deal for some, but when you can’t see, things are a little bit harder. Cynthia is legally blind, but has achieved the personal milestone completely unassisted.
"It was an impossible cast; 15 feet away through a gap that was about 40 centimetres by 40 centimetres to get the hook to land between overhanging trees then land in a two foot wide creek to hook the trout!"
Tells Stevens, explaining the fish-landing final cast. "They knew if they told me what things looked like, I would freak out and say 'no way I can't do that'. The guide said he chose not to tell me... ignorance is bliss," she said.”
So what’s the ‘Royal Slam’ award you can win with a three inch long Trout? The International Game Fishing Association say the award honours a lifetime of fishing, and certifies that the recipient has indeed caught every species of fish in a particular category. This category was the Trout Species, and required certified catches of brook, brown, bull, cutthroat, golden, lake, and rainbow Trout.
We’re feeling pretty inspired by Cynthia’s award, and you should be too! Get out there and drop a line in this weekend, or bring someone along who you think might enjoy it… You never know, one day they might be adding their name to the IGFA’s list!
