Time to hit Queensland dams for Golden Perch

After recent heavy downpours across the State, Fisheries Queensland are notifying anglers that now is the time to hit the dams to chase golden perch, and as the weather continues to warm up other species like barra will soon be regular targets.

As the dams water levels rise from recent rainfall the fish move up into the new grass and weeds along the fringes of the dam to eat the shrimp living in the undergrowth.

Goldens are an excellent fighting fish and their firm white flesh makes them great on the plate too.

Permits are required for chasing these fish and are available for $7 for a week, or $35 for a year with funds from the permits going to maintaining the programs which stock these dams.
