$1,000 per Kilometer Raised for Cancer, by Kiteboarders!

They made it! 75km Across the Bay, raising $70,000!
By the time fundraising is over, the Across the Bay to Conquer Cancer charity event will have raised over $70,000. When you consider the trek was 75km from Rosebud to St Kilda, that’s some pretty good mileage, almost $1,000 per kilometer kited!

Now in it’s third year, the Across the Bay to Conquer Cancer event is one of the biggest fundraising efforts in the world! The proceeds go to the Cancer Council of Victoria, an independent charity with a mission to reduce the impact of all cancers for all Victorians. They’ve been doing incredible work since 1936, and with an extra $70,000 in their pockets, will continue to do so in the future.

As for the kiteboarders, they too have achieved greatness by physically making the journey across the bay! 75km downwind is no small feat, and considering the wind was in the high 20 knot range for most of the day, it’s been labeled as the most challenging ‘Across the Bay’ yet! Luckily, all the riders were training hard for the last few months, doing practice downwinders to build up their endurance, and to perfect those energy saving downwinder techniques.

It all paid off, with almost everyone making the journey 75km downwind without incident to a cold beer at St Kilda. What better way to celebrate raising an unbelievable amount of money for charity?

Well done to the entire Across the Bay to Conquer Cancer team, and if you haven’t donated yet, head on over to their campaign page and throw a few bucks their way. If you're interested in joining the adventure next year, get in contact with the organizers and get involved!
