3 Excuses to get you on the water this Christmas

Spend Christmas Day with your kiting family

Kiting on Christmas day is a must-do experience for any kiteboarder, the stoke you share with other kiters, the burning sand on your feet and the smell of Beers and BBQ’s on the beach make it a truly great session no matter the conditions.

But getting to the beach can be a little tricky. Sure, if you’re single it’s no worries, simply cancel your plans, pack the car and spend Christmas Day with your kiting family! When a kiteboarder mixes kids, close family or the wife/husband into the Christmas Day equation, things get a little more complicated. So here’s three great ideas to get you on the water this Christmas!

3 Excuses to get you on the water this Christmas

Just Ask.

Sometimes the most obvious idea is always the best. If you just get it over with, ask the family if you can go kiteboarding for a couple of hours, chances are you’ll get a definitive answer. If the answer is yes, it means you won’t spend the next three weeks devising cunning plans, sneaky schemes and genius ideas. If the answer is “No way, not a chance, don’t even thing about it!” Then at least you know to give up immediately.

Beach Barbeque

While this one is as transparent as the canopy on a 2001 Slingshot Fuel, a barbeque at the beach is a not-so-subtle way of asking, without asking. Bring some snags and prawns, battle your way to a public barbeque (or byo) and enjoy a classic Aussie Christmas. Get the foody stuff done first and then pump up for a quicky. Or convince the other-half to do the cooking and get the kiting in before you stuff your face! (Because you don’t want to ride 17m anyway!)

Forget to Schedule the Afternoon Shift

If you have one of those families that does Christmas Brekky at the in-laws, Lunch at the Grandparents and Dinner with your parents (because they all don’t get along), this one works a treat! Tell the grandparents that you can’t stay long for lunch, because you need to get to dinner early. Tell the parents that you will be late for dinner because lunch will go overtime. Easy! You’ve scored yourself a couple of hours in between the two for kiting goodness. Let the family sleep it off, you can work it off with a few kiteloops.

Enjoy your day this Christmas, try and get out on the water for an hour or two, and don’t forget to share your Christmas kiting experiences in the kiteboarding forums!
