Australian Kiteboarding Nationals this week in Melbourne

Big loops are going to score well this week...
Australia’s best kiteboarders are gathered today at the iconic Royal Brighton Yacht Club in Melbourne. Racers, Foilers and Freestylers will all be pushing hard, trying to finish the week by standing atop a podium, who will win? And more importantly, will there be wind?

Current forecasts look promising, with the lead-up to the event providing some epic, albeit a little stormy weather. Ewan Jaspan and his mates were out making the most of it in the butter flat water, check out the picture adjacent to see what we mean!

This is the same location as the competition will be held, and probably one of the best in the world for freestyle kiteboarding. The shape of the massive harbor, and facilities provided by the Royal Brighton Yacht club turn kiting spot into a natural amphitheater. Accommodating thousands of spectators easily, this spot could bring Australia to the masses, with TV coverage in the works, and heaps of the worlds kiting media on hand to witness it and report back to their own websites and magazines.

Don’t worry, we’ll bring you all the best action. We’ve got our money on Marvin Baumiester for the racing, but we know Jordan Girdis will be right on his tail, either could win! The foils will either be the highlight of the competition or go by unnoticed, and in the freestyle we’re not even game to pick a top three. The talent on offer from Aussie riders right now is unbelievable. Pay particular attention to the junior riders this year, there's a kid from Brisbane who's going to turn heads, Ryan Parsons. He's just got to deal with wearing a wetsuit for once!

Its running now, from the 17th to 23rd of March 2014. If you happen to be down in Melbourne, drop by and check it out!

We’ll bring you all the action, reports and results later in the week. Check back then!
