Ewan Jaspan's movin' up to the big league

Ewan and Alex Pastor
That little kid who was only doing backrolls a few years ago is now one of Naish's hottest riders, not to mention his performance in the PKRA world freestyle tour.

Rewind to 2008, Ewan was down in Merimbula for the Mambo event (back when it was still called Mambo). He was messing around with some little freestyle tricks and working out how to get the most from his shiny new Naish kites he'd been given by his sponsors Kite Republic. The Melbourne local rode at St Kilda every day he could and with his mates kept releasing short video's on the forums, the most memorable being him doing huge kiteloops in the tiny St Kilda harbour.

Now, he's mixing it up with riders like Alex Pastor on the PKRA world tour, and giving him a run for his money! He says just watching those guys improves his riding, but how long will it be before they start watching him? Finishing 5th at the most recent event in Dakhla, Ewan pricked up a lot of ears over there, including those at Naish kiteboarding. While they already sponsor him, they've invited him to Maui to shoot the 2014 product promo material, an honour for any rider but especially so for Ewan, who's been riding Naish since day one.

Here's what Ewan had to say about his travels, and the journey he's been on so far:

"Overall I couldn't have asked for a better start, and am stoked to do so as a Naish and Kite Republic ambassador! Travelling has been great, its only the start of the year, and I cant wait to see more and compete more, but its always great to come home and catch up with the local crew, already looking forwards to that! I hope to be able to push the new KR Grom Squad to new levels and share some experience, so we can get some top class riders coming out of Melbourne, hopefully a buddy to travel with out of Australia! When I was younger it really helped to have a mate (Lincoln Reeves) kiting with me and pushing my level, we gained experience together and I dont think I would have really started competing or getting to a competing level without our sessions."

Keep an eye on him at the next event in the PKRA world tour, maybe even on the podium! Good luck Ewan!
