New world record: The most kiteboarders ever

A New World Record - 318 Kiteboarders
7am… Hayling Island beach off the south coast of England… 300 kiteboarders.

Not the average day at a kite beach, but how incredible must it have been to be there!!! With Sir Richard Branson as the figurehead of the campaign, the Virgin Kitesurfing Armada was an attempt to break the previous world record for the most kiteboarders to ride down a mile stretch of beach. The previous number was 250 kiteboarders.

Raising money three fantastic charities: Virgin Unite, Snow Camp and the RNLI the group set off from 9am and within a few hours over 300 had made the short hop one mile downwind to the finish. There was 318 in fact, an incredible feat with a great cause, and some spectacular footage for the media with all those kites in the air and on the beach. The exact total raised for the charities is still being counted, but with so many stoked kiters on one beach, it’s sure to be very respectable!

Check out the video of the day below, and look out for the kiter dressed up as Richard Branson in his last media stunt! (You know the one we mean!)

“If you want to go fast, go alone… If you want to go far, go together… It was wonderful.”
Sir Richard Branson.
