With just only a month before the National Kiteboarding League (NKL) hits the white sand of the Gold Coast, anticipation is high for Australia's first ever kiteboarding tour.
The National Kiteboarding League, sponsored by Classic Holidays, will be the very first national tour for Aussie kiteboarders, with six stops in Australia and one in New Zealand, it's going to be a huge summer for the sport! Riders from all over the country are training hard, because the winner of this series will attract some serious attention on the world stage. To help them along, shops in each state are holding '
NKL Training Camps
' in the lead-up to the event, where riders new to competition can learn tricks from the pros, how to impress the judges and meet their fellow competitors before the event.
The Gold Coast will be hosting two events, the first and the last stops of the tour in November 2015, and February 2016, in Surfers Paradise. Previously hosting the PKRA world tour, for both wave and freestyle disciplines, Surfers Paradise provides a perfect backdrop for competitive kiting in classic Aussie 'beachie' conditions. It's here where the major event sponsors 'Classic Holidays' are based, (as well as online) and is a major part in what they do, helping families enjoy affordable holidays since 1978.
Next stop, New Zealand where Christchurch will host Australia's best kiters, and give the Kiwi's a chance to compete on home soil. Incorporating the Cabrinha Big Air comp, Christchurch is a much anticipated stop on the tour for anyone who's kited there. Out to prove themselves, word on the beach is that the Kiwi kiters have big plans, so watch out for them when they hit the water in November.
Back to Australia for the rest of the season, the NKL will then be visiting Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne for more freestyle, surfing, big air and a whole list of side activities designed to introduce new kiters, inspire future generations and promote safe kiting practices among the community. Each event will have free introduction courses running from 10am each day, where interested people can learn to fly a trainer kite with a qualified instructor. Of course the main event will bring out the best kiteboarders in Australia, all competing for the title of Australia's best, and for the prize money on offer thanks to event sponsor Classic Holidays.
For those not into freestyle, don't worry, the Cabrinha Big Air comp is all about kickin' it old school, and showcasing just how incredible the sport of kiteboarding is to the general public. With huge prizes on offer, plus the glory of being crowned the Big Air Champion of the state, this mini comp is worth the entry fee alone!
Speaking of which, $90 entry fee gets you so much more than access to the event site:
? 4 days of Entry competing for points for your States overall tally!
? Entry into the intermission Cabrinha FX Big Air Showcase - Held every day wind permitting - A BIG Trophy for winner in each State and consolation prizes! (Goodness - I would enter just for this FUN comp!)
? BBQ lunch/pizza and drinks for each day you attend;
? A goodie-bag full of fun stuff;
? Access to our Saturday night party;
? The first 15 to register in each discipline in each State or NZ will receive a free event t-shirt RRP $29.95
