36th Sabre National Championship Regatta Commences
The 36th Sabre Australian National Championships commenced yesterday at Perth Dinghy Sailing Club a total of 66 Sabres took to the Swan River. The first time the National Championships have been sailed in WA.
Two invitation races were sailed Sunday in breezes 15 –18 knots with cloudless skies. Local sailor Scott Olsen secured first place in both races.
Heats 1 and Heats 2 sponsored by Boating Hardware Prosail were raced yesterday winds were 10 – 15 knots. Scott Olsen once again secured first place.
The regatta was officially opened by City of Perth Deputy Lord Mayor Mr Rob Butler. The City of Perth are a major sponsor of the regatta, along with MUSTO and Ronstan. Mr Butler was thrilled to see the regatta in Perth and wished all the competitors a successful regatta.
All age groups are competing in the nationals with a strong fleet of juniors and grand veterans (70 years and over.
