Bundaberg Sailing Club Open Day

A large crowd enjoyed the clubs open day and blessing of the fleet on Sat. the 8th Sept.. The official opening was performed by the member for Burnett Mr Stephen Bennett MP. The Mayor of Bundaberg Mr Mal Forman also addressed the crowd which included members from Sailability Bundaberg, who conduct sailing for the disabled, and members the Bundaberg Dragon Boat Club both organizations being based at the club.  Councilor Lynne Forgan and Port manager Jason Pascoe also attended the open day and blessing of the fleet ceremonies.
The Open Day Commodores Trophy race was won by Rod Daley sailing in the Trailer Sailer division.
As outlined at the AGM the clubs committee and member are hoping that the successful outcome of a grant application will allow the club to upgrade it's fleet of sail training boats. The preferred replacement boats would serve a dual purpose in that they can be used for beginners and then with a simple rig change made to suit more advanced sailors within the training program. Having a number of boats of the same class would also allow learners to hone their
competitive skills.
Several member are now readjusting to the local scene after crewing at the Airlie Beach and Magnetic Island race weeks. A winner at last years Hamilton Island race week, club sponsor and owner/skipper of ''Star Ferry'', John Brand had to settle for a top 10 finish (7th) at this
years regatta.
The sail training program has resumed after a short recess and anyone interested in learning to sail should contact the club for more details. The Open day also signals the start of the summer sailing program and sailor and non sailor alike are invited to visit the club and surrounds. The club bar and canteen operate on designated sailing  days.
Membership of the club is open to everybody interested in water based activities and offers boat storage (fees apply), use of the launching ramp and pontoon, secure parking and use of club amenities (toilets, showers, boat wash down area and BBQ).
