Tasar Nationals to visit north Queensland's Townsville in 20

Townsville Sailing Club announced today they have been awarded the hosting rights for the 2015 Tasar Australian Championship.

The championships will be held from 26th September to 3rd October as part of the annual Sail Townsville event.

Event manager John Byrne said the Tasar class nationals usually attract upwards of 70 entries from around Australia.

“The regatta itself is a major draw card and participation is always high from every State. The weather in late September usually gives us consistent south-easters and enough puff to make for some great racing. Add in the warm water, even warmer sun and the close proximity of all facilities to the race course, and  I think it’s the best place to race in early Spring.

“We also hope to be able to host a Yachting Queensland conference at the same time as the regatta which will draw more sailing visitors to a great location,” Byrne said.

Racing will be held on Cleveland Bay, adjacent to the Townsville Sailing Club.

Competitors are encouraged to plan their trip to north Queensland’s Barrier Reef and rain forest now and book their accommodation through www.townsvillenorthqueensland.com.au/ ;

For all regatta information, go to www.tsc.yachting.org.au.
