A Stand Up Paddling Safari of the traditional kind.

The Okavango Delta, Botswana. Perfect for a SUP!
These days the term ‘Safari’ usually means packing your boards and getting on a jet to Fiji, or Hawaii. Somewhere with waves and tropical climates, maybe a little touch of third-world living for a week while you holiday in paradise. This Safari however, is the more traditional kind, in the Okavango Delta of Botswana.

Inflatable SUPs have changed this side of the sport forever. Allowing heaps of camping gear to be taken on board, plus enjoying the rugged and durable characteristics of the designs, these inflatables are the only option when it comes to navigating the narrow passages and camping in the wilderness.

Chris Bertish took a small group of explorers into the Delta in April, with a few experienced paddlers and some who’d never even stood on a SUP before! Accompanied by a couple of local guides traditional African boats, in which they stood up and used sticks to propel themselves along the passages (sound familiar?) they spent a few days paddling, camping and immersing themselves in the African wilderness. A true safari.

Check out the short video clip below to see them stand up paddling amongst Hippo’s, Elephants and Giraffes, plus the rest of the amazing animals that can be found on the Okavango Delta in Botswana.
