While out for a paddle with his mate in California, a stand up paddler got more than he bargained for chasing the dolphins, when a dolphin lept out of a wave, colliding with him in mid air!

Stand Up Paddling off Hermosa Beach in California, Matt Minich and his mate Peter were hanging out with a small pod of Bottle Nosed Dolphins out the back in the flat water. Inquisitive and playful as most dolphins are, they swam around the boards and took a good look at the paddlers before they headed inshore to go for a surf.

Both the dolphins, and the paddlers that is! While paddling back out for another one, Matt noticed the dolphins surfing the wave in front of him and whipped out his GoPro to film, just as he did, one of the dolphins lept out of the wave face, straight for the exact spot Matt was standing! Despite doing its best to avoid the collision, (like the good seaman all dolphins are presumed to be) the two collided, ending up underwater together.

All was good in the end though, both parties swam away and continued surfing, although the dolphin was probably pretty annoyed at having his wave spoiled.
