Matt Nottage wins King of the Cut SUP Race
This time it wasn't a case of two paddlers sprinting up the beach for a photo finish, Nottage won by more than two minutes, even beating the lead pack who were paddling unlimited race boards, which are normally much faster than 14ft boards! Angie Jackson also put on a stellar performance, breaking away from Terrene Black early in the race to extend a lead of over 5 minutes by the finish. She almost didn't make it too, doubled up with a virus only hours before her flight to Perth.
Yet again, the Starboard Ace was the star of the show this year, with Angie borrowing a 2015 model board to fill in for her own raceboard, which still hadn't arrived in the country. Matt took the new 2016 model, proving that the unique design really is the one to beat in strong downwinder conditions.
Now standing in a prime position to take on the worlds fastest paddlers, will Matt Nottage become a staple in the world racing scene? Look out for him carrying the Aussie flag alongside Travis Grant and Beau O'Brien at the next world series event!
