The Red Bull Party Wave - Paddling Hilarity!
Judged on their best team performances both on the wave, and before they get in the water, paddling and surfing teams from around Hawaii dressed up to perform a skit on the beach, then paddled out to surf a wave at Waikiki's famous Queens Beach.
Winners of the event, 'Queens of Queens' took the prize by paddling a six man stand up paddle board dressed in boardies and bikini's (with helmets for safety of course).
They were running against a team of pirates, headed by Jamie Obrien of Who Is JOB, starting their surf session with a mock battle on the beach for their lost 'booty'. In a stark contrast, the pirates were actually battling a Jamacian Bobsled team, of course named 'Team Cool Runnings' who paddled a smaller craft, built for the four surfers dressed in authentic bobsled race suits and helmets. There were wresters, guys doing flips on BMX bikes and lots and lots of spectators, plus a few famous faces in the judging booth.
"This is the mecca for surfing in terms of having fun where the sport found its roots," Party Wave judge Kai Lenny said. "At the end of the day, you just want to go ride waves with your friends. That's the most important part of surfing."
Waves, friends, surf and Queens Beach Waikiki, sounds about as awesome as the video depicts… Check it out!
