This Will Inspire You to Paddle Faster, and Longer!
"In a distance race, the start matters, but not as much. You have time to work through everything that goes through your head on that kind of race."
When it's getting up to the 30+ km mark, you spend a long time on a board. By the end of it, there's not much left in the tank. That's when you need to start changing it up, looking for the last dregs of energy left in muscles you never knew you had. The ability to dig deep, and push through it might make the difference between first and second.
"When you're racing with other people you really go past your own limits, or push them past their own limits" Explains Bennett. "It's a game of chicken sometimes, and there's two different systems you've got. Your sprint system, and your endurance system. You push into your sprint system, you have your clock ticking down and eventually you run out of gas. At the end of a 32km race, you've tried everything you've got. There wasn't one mistake that destroyed you. You were not fast, or you were fast."
