Travis Grant Wins Carolina Cup

Against some fresh faces in the stand up paddle racing world, Travis Grant has once again shown he’s the man to beat in 2015 at the Carolina Cup in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.

Paddling a 14’x25” board in the choppy conditions, Travis Grant won the 13.2 mile long distance race in just over two hours, beating Danny Ching and Georges Cronsteadt by a minute each and leaving the likes of Connor Baxter and Jake Jensen in his wake. Even well known paddlers like Kelly Margetts and Paul Jackson were well down the list, as a whole stack of new faces joined the top 10.

In the womens fleet, Kiwi Annabel Anderson was over the line 4 minutes clean of Sonni Honschied and Lina Augaitis, cementing her position at the top of the world series rankings. She’ll be hard to beat this year, with such a solid performance in every event so far.

Conditions were tough and varied, with wind, chop and grueling flat water sections to contend with. Aussie paddler Paul Jackson finished up in 15th place, saying;

“The start was a major part, and mine was a good one! Once in the flat water, not much changed and then on the last little downwind run home is where all the moves were made.”

With so many new faces in the top 20, world rankings are on the shuffle. The first stop of the 2015 world series is in Barcelona, Spain on the 26th of June, so until then paddlers will be training hard and trying for every single point they can score.
