Water Polo + Sup = SUPolo!

Contact sports with SUP boards! Pic: Blue Chip
What happens when you put ten stand up paddlers in an Olympic swimming pool? Not much, but if you add a ball and a set of inflatable soccer goals, things get interesting!

SUPolo, SUP Ball, SUPoccer, whatever you want to call it; stand up paddlers all over the world are trying to work out how to make a team sport out of SUP. Water polo is the most likely result, and to give you an idea of what it will look like, check this bunch out in the video below.

Wondering who’s on what team? Check out the paddles, blue and red! While you’re checking those out, take notice of the giant holes cut in the blades. Designed to cup the SUPolo ball like a lacrosse stick, the holes also stop paddlers from scooting around the pool too fast. Of course inflatable stand up paddle boards are a necessity due to the full (board) contact rules and despite these guys choosing Santa hats over helmets, things seem to pan out alright (

' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'>unlike this guy playing Canoe Polo).

Give it a try next time you’re out on the water, just take a tennis ball and throw it around between your mates to get started. The genius ways stand up paddlers find to amuse themselves will never cease to amaze us here at Seabreeze…
