1 Foot, 18 seconds, One Cutback and A week full of stoke.

We’re not talking about 1 foot swell either, Mike Coots literally has one foot and he’s showing the world that physical disability means nothing when you’ve got the ocean and a surfboard at your disposal.

This week he released a little snapshot of him surfing his local break in Hawaii, just a simple cutback after he straps on his prosthetic leg.

That’s not the news though, the news is his dismount, which is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. The overwhelming stoke on this dudes face could be bottled up and sold for millions, yet he’s sharing it online for free.

"Yes, the ocean took a part of me, but what it has given in return is immeasurable."

After losing the lower half of his leg to a Tiger Shark while bodyboarding in Hawaii, Mike has since dedicated his life to photography, surfing and protecting sharks. Yeah, protecting the little critters that took his leg in the first place, as he so chillingly describes.

“I remember instinctively thinking ‘Oh no, the shark is grabbing me again, why else would my leg be shaking?’ I looked over my shoulder and the leg was just gone, severed off. I think it was spasming from such a traumatic amputation, so fast. It was like out of the movies, like blood squirting out the middle and just a perfect, perfect severed bite."

He caught a wave back to the beach, and his mates used his leash as a tourniquet to keep him alive. Two years later, he was back in the water, at the exact same spot. Not because he was simply ‘getting back on the horse’ either, he went back there because that’s where the waves were best.

What a legend! Check out the video below for a dose of goodness that will last you all week.
