While freesurfing with his mates at the Cascais Billabong Pro this week, CJ Hopgood was a little too focused on throwing shakas, and ended up with his face (well, actually his chest) smooshed all over a giant rock.

“I took it on the chest, that’s called a dumb-arse move, a don’t try that at home move right there. He was like telling me to do an air, so I did an air. I was trying to like, give him a little shakas and then, like face planted into a rock….”

The rock in question was there all along, sticking out of the water in plain sight. It’s quite famous actually, appearing in all manner of professional surf videos, from people trying to hop over it, to this wipeout that almost got real nasty.

At least he’s not the only one, remember when Nikki Van Dijk got slammed by the lurking bombie at the Bells Beach Pro? She too took it like a champ, paddling right back out there to finish her heat!
