Donald Brink Makes Weird Surfboards, that absolutely RIP!
Asymmetrical boards have been around for years, tucked under the arms of trend-setting hopefuls and the would-be hipsters of yesterday. Yet pro surfing continues the tradition of CNC shaped, ultra symmetrical boards that are just as perfect as Kelly Slaters artificial wave.
Real world surfers aren't perfect, and real world conditions aren't perfect. That's why Brink makes assymetrical boards. And boards that look funny. He tries new things, old things that didn't-really-work-in-the-past but might with todays technology. He has ingested more saw dust and had more foam particles in his eyes than many. He has a giant sculpture of a foot outside his shaping room in California with a sign that says 'Talk to your shaper about your foot today'.
Yep, he's not your average surfboard shaper.
"What makes me most excited, is when you see somebody riding something a little off the bat, but they're RIPPING. That's where it's at, and that's where we haven't been before. You go down the beach now, and 5 years ago there weren't that many guys riding something different."
