Five reasons why every single child should learn to surf.

"I loved growing up with four brothers, it kept me on my toes all the time, there was never a dull moment in my household. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be where I am today, for sure."

Kelia Moniz grew up surfing in Waikiki, the birthplace of modern surfing, with her father competing as a professional surfer. Of course following in his footsteps was all but assured, as Kelia grew up on the beach, learning to live, and love the ocean. Sitting, surrounded by the beautiful Hawaiian landscape, she explains one of the best things about growing up in the water; "Having a connection with the ocean is like having a connection with a second force." She It's really special, and growing up in the water you get that really quick. Because as a little kid you feel those little elements. It's like learning a second language really fast when you're young, That's how the ocean is, what this feels like, what the wave feels like, where it breaks, why it breaks there." Surfing brings kids together, just take one look at the grommies at your local during your next session. It's a brotherhood, a sisterhood, and they all look out for each other no matter who did what at school. Surfing keeps kids out of trouble, out of the virtual world and teaches them that sometimes, you can't beat mother nature. She beats you. And that's ok!
