Freefalling from Jaws - Does this count as a BASE jump?

"Such is life for the seasoned big wave surfer, but we'll bet one thing for certain: Tom wishes he didn't take that leggy now!"

Crazy, maybe. Unlucky, absolutely. This week on a massive day at Peahi (Jaws), surfer Tom Dosland took a drop that was near on impossible. He didn't make it, and his half a second hesitation on the lip of that monster set up him for one of the biggest freefalls ever seen in big wave surfing.

Technically BASE stands for Building, Antennae, Span, Earth, and although this freefall isn't quite as high as the New River Gorge Bridge, it's certainly high enough to be cringe-worthy. Luckily, no parachutes were required for this one, as Tom landed safely in the flat water around the middle of the wave face. Only to be pummeled yet again by the very same wave he'd just been thrown from.

Such is life for the seasoned big wave surfer, but we'll bet one thing for certain: Tom wishes he didn't take that leggy now! Watch as his board gets stuck on the lip, he falls and his leggy snags. It sets him up perfectly for a spread eagled slapper of a landing! He's just lucky the board didn't come back down at him like a slingshot too - KAPOW!
