It wasn't supposed to happen this way, but nobody will argue that it wasn't fair. John John Florence has won his first WSL World Title and he did it before the tour was even over.

Portugal, in the Peniche Centre Region, was where it happened. Everyone expected it to happen at Pipe. John Johns home, the epicentre of modern surfing and the surfers favourite spot. There would have been friends and family and huge parties and everyone would have wanted an invite. It would have been huge. But instead - Portugal. Jordy Smith went down to Connor Coffin, and that was that. Nobody can catch him now.

Before the event, John John went on record saying: "If I Win; I'm going to look back and go "I Won, that was the best year of my life'... If I don't win, I'm gonna look back and be like, you know what, I had an awesome year. I travelled around, I surfed good waves, I met cool people and had a great time."

Well, he did win, but he still got to surf those waves, meet those people and have a great time. It's the Era of John John, and he's not finished yet - he's still got that event at Pipe!
