Mystery surfer at Pipeline is Keahi De Aboitiz!
It was a cracking week at Pipeline and the worlds best were having at it at the legendary paddle-in break. Overhead sets, freight-train barrels and both left or right options available also meant the high profile photographers were out to record it. Amongst all of that, one guy wowed them all, as he took the drop, back-doored a freight train and got spat out with hands held high. Then he childishly boosted off the chop ahead, flying head over heels behind the wave.
Nobody knew who it was, but everybody knew that had just witnessed something amazing at Pipeline, possibly the best wave of the winter, and most certainly of the day. To find the mystery man in boardies and black top, an internet wide search was undertaken. Calling it a manhunt of epic proportions would be somewhat of an understatement though, thanks to the keen eyes in the Aussie surfing community who took less than 24hrs to start calling out one name in unison.
Keahi De Aboitiz.
The now-world-champ kid from Noosa who showed the world how to land an aerial on a stand up paddle board, to flip a surfboard around like a skateboard meters in the air, and to actually kite SURF like the sports inventors only dreamed, can also mix it up on a shortboard with the worlds best.
Those of us who've met Keahi, and seen what he can do in the water will totally get it. Those of you who haven't had the pleasure yet; you will. Just watch this!
