A 26 year old man has lost his leg in a shark attack at Fishery Bay, SA yesterday, and is now in a critical condition. Witnesses say it was a great white, and conditions were a perfect recipe for the attack.

Overcast conditions, South Australian waters, and a little wind chop. The perfect recipe for a shark attack, but as a surfer you don’t really think about it that way. Neither did 26 year old Chris Blowes when he paddled out on ANZAC day at Fisheries Bay in South Australia. There were about a dozen other surfers out the back when the attack happened, luckily for Mr Blowes who was swiftly taken to shore and airlifted out.

“The shark came in and bit his leg off and the guys helped him in and carried him up the cliff,” said Glenn Lugg, a witness who was surfing that morning. “I was just watching the shark go out to the ocean with his board still attached. Obviously the shark still had his leg and he was still swimming around with it.”

That would be quite the humorous scene if it was in a movie, but unfortunately for Chris the situation was real, and he’s got one serious job ahead of him as he fights for life in Adelaide. We wish him a speedy recovery, and home to see him back out on the water soon.
