30th Ledge Point to Lancelin 25km Wind & Kitesurf Race!
In 1986 a handful of enthusiastic windsurfers met together for a 25km downwind race from Ledge Point to Lancelin. From this home grown start, the Lancelin Ocean Classic is now one of the worlds best known water sports championships with kite surfing now a critical sport in the mix. The Lancelin Ocean Classic holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest windsurf race in the world.
Taking place from 15 – 18 January 2015, 128kms north of Perth on one of Western Australia’s most beautiful coastal pockets, the Lancelin Ocean Classic features the famous downwind marathon alongside wave sailing, kite freestyle and a jet ski race on Saturday.
For families and spectators, the race village will serve up entertainment, drinks and food by the beach at Grace Darling Park.
The Lancelin Ocean Classic also features the 25km Ledge Point to Lancelin Windsurfing Marathon which currently holds the Guinness World Record for longest windsurfing race.
In 2014 the event attracted hundreds of competitors and thousands spectators including windsurfing great Bjorn Dunkerbeck (Denmark), previous winner Peter Volwater (Netherlands) and Steve Allen (Australia). In 2015, registration numbers are already high with enthusiasts from around Australia start to get ready to race.
