Sadly my Kiteworld hoodie won't see out another winter.

I hate buying clothes and expect them to last a decade if they're decent.

Now is the time for end of winter clearouts to start soon if I get one here.

Anyone know a really good hoodie, I want:

Heavyweight - heavier the better
Pullover style with kangaroo pouch pocket
big sizing is good

The yanks do a pretty tough one. This is what I'm thinking.

www.carhartt.com/products/carhartt-men-hoodies-sweatshirts/Rain-Defender-Paxon-Heavyweight-Hooded-Zip-Mock-Sweatshirt-100617

big&tall sizing
waterproof
13 oz / 360gsm fabric
zip up round the neck so the hood doesn't funnel wind down into it
security pocket hidden in kangaroo pouch
no big logo

I'm having trouble finding a site that delivers though, might have to use shipitto or something.
Anyone recommend any others?

I still have and use the ski-pants and two-part jacket I got from Colombia my first year of uni... in 1992. I'm amazed the company hasn't gone bankrupt!

Good luck with the hoodie hunt

New Zealand swandri is exactly what you want. Kept me warm building in the snow at 1400 metres.

Hoodies? And who even puts the hood up? If you do ever put the hood up you can't see to the left or right and are likely to get taken in for questioning. Bring back the good old wind cheater and beanie.

Yep Ian I last had a hood up.. today... on a different hoodie, was on the beach walking downwind and it was cold. I do always feel like one of the chavs in your vid but I find if it's cold enough to appreciate it, it's cold enough not to care.

I found this by the way, the size of a tennis ball and still alive, waving all those bristles. Anyone know what it might be?

There's some other brand I was reading about a while back, made in somewhere really cold & industrial in the US, made to last and with all these cool features for when it's really cold.

Thanks for the suggestions some nice ones there. Swanndri looks like good gear.

I do love hoodies, the problem with the wind-cheater and beanie is the gap between the two on the neck, with the hoodie there are no gaps. Even on a recent long plane trip the hoodie was more like a private sleeping bag for my head when sleeping in fact it even saved me having one of those silly uncomfortable travel pillows.
Carhartt, under armour hoodies are good too

Support a local Australian business.
I own a Yuki threads hoodie and it is genuinely supreme quality. Thick fabric and extremely well made. Actually I own two and the first one is a few years old already. These hoodies will definitely last you a decade.

^^^ OMFG $139 for a fleece windcheater with a hood?

Do they do anything else like bring you beers or give you a BJ?

Unhook3d I think you might have come thru with the goods there. Aussie made, heavyweight, kangaroo pouch, good neck sealing (zip or 2nd holes you can thread), long arms with thumb holes. Only drama is not many in bigger sizes.

Price is not really issue for me for this particular purchase- I'd rather pay 1 x $140 for a quality item that lasts than 4 x $35.
Any of Carharrt, American Apparel, Swandri etc would be similar price to Yuki.

A beanie outperforms a hoodie any day. I've tested them back to back. Ask this bloke.

Or any of these trend setters

But most of those old groovers in the photo Ian have scarves to cover the gap and therefore there is more risk to loose one or another, with the hoodie there is one piece of clothing and so minimises the risk of having to ask the wife" have you seen my beanie and scarf"
With the hoodie it's either off or on, a simple mans clothing item for sure

Hey mark I once asked at a hairdresser for a haircut & she said $180 I said do I get a bj with that & she said no .So I went & got what's left of my hair cut for $20
. But that said I do feel the cold. Best jacket I got is from the USA its got 16oz of duck down in it its canvas on outside its as warm as toast the only problem is its heavy & hard to move in . Its lasted 13 years a bit faded but looks good for another 10 at least

Not for windsurfing in winter. In 30kn the side of it flaps like blazes against one eye when u r side on to the wind. The you turn you head into the wind and it rips off.
I'll take beanie any day.
And the only item of clothing for $140 is a suit.

Actually your black & white mate there looks like he's wearing a hoodie and a beanie - which is best of all

Aaand that's me.

But like you said earlier, a hoodie can be very useful, can be a travel pillow, can stretch it round sideways or even put it on backwards if you're stuck on a cold train for 27 hours and you just need the lights to go out for a while.

Well just to give some closure, because I like threads with closure:

I liked the Yuki hoodies, and like supporting an aussie company, but despite being made for aussie alps they're only 320 gsm (grams per m2 fabric weight) and I wanted heavyweight.

I ended up tracking down the 2 best heavyweight hoodies in the world. Both claim to last a decade and i aim to test that.

Kellsport
http://www.sweatshirtsusa.com/mens-heavyweight-thermal-hooded-sweatshirt.html
Which come in at 610gsm plus a fleece lining on top of that.

And

Arborwear
www.arborwear.com/products/sweatshirts/double-thick-pullover-sweatshirt
Which has a dual layers at 440gsm each layer for a total 880gsm. It's heavy.

I went with the Arborwear. I'm wearing it right now in our current sub-zero conditions here in qld.
It's awesome.

They sent me a 20% discount voucher for next purchase, valid 1 month I think.
I won't be using it, if any breezer wants to buy one, send me a PM, I'll give it to you.

Hey lortap, AmericanGiant was a bit of a starting point for me, I read lots of good things about them, how they were the ultimate etc.

Lots of articles out there about how awesome they are.

But they seemed a bit lightweight (heaviest at 420gsm) for what I wanted. And a bit too fashion oriented / dressy with the slim fit etc.

I'm a crusty old beggar who wants one tough, warm, jumper I can drag all over and use in every situation from the beach in 30kts in winter to a pillow on a plane to working outside all night doing hydrant pressure testing.
