Kids getting into Bmx bikes and going around the track non stop, tried it myself and loved it. Anyone recommend a suitable adult bmx bike???
Get one with 20-22 inch top tube.. That will give the room for your arms and you wont feel cramped like you would on a smaller frame.
I agree, 20 to 22 inch. 20 inch are the most common (suits me at 5'11" tall).
If you're on the race track, it really helps to get something lighter that you can throw around. Good brands like Haro, Redline and GT will have carbon parts. But, aluminium is definitely good enough (in the same brands). Always heaps of good second hand race bikes on Gumtree - distinctive by the cross bar sloping right down to the back axle.
If you're at the local skate park, you probably want something a bit stronger. Go for chromoly frames. Flat cross bar. Haro, Gt, DK, Kink, Colony to name a few.
Once you've got the bug and want to re - live your childhood chase down the old school brands and build your own. I'm 40 and ride this:
Did the mountain bike on a local track here and another dad there gave me his GT to try and was awesome, so many more BMX bikes these days than when I was a kid. Plenty on Gumtree but no idea which one is best. All the expensive brands when i was a kid seem to be cheap now? Haro, Redline etc - have the quality of these dropped down? just like Diamond back being at Big W?

Dreamed a lot as a 13 year old wanting a Haro , Skyway Redline or GT. Settled for a Madison hand me down.
Just fixed up the GT over the weekend.
Just need to get new back brakes.
I also have an Chrome Interceptor, the poor things starting to look pretty average with the chrome rusting away.
+1 for the dirt jump bike. We have a pump track near home that my son was riding, I ended up buying one of these off Gumtree for a couple of hundred dollars - less than $300 in any case. It's like a cross between a BMX and a MTB - it feels really small but it's great on the track. Super hard work too.

Ultimately, whatever is comfortable for you.
I'd consider this in making your choice:
- if you're truly riding track you'll barely ever sit down (ride) and probably wont require the bigger bike
- the bigger the heavier
- re-sale will be harder
- have to wait longer to hand down to the kids when you're hanging for your new bike, but told you already have one
If none of that matters... get it. There'll be no regrets

So time to dig out an old beast for ressurection: circa 1984, Torker.
A few new parts (Skyway tuffs,brakepads,chain, crank bearings,headset bearings,pedals,spinback,handlebars,brake levers,grips and a layback pole) and shes good to go.
Another Corio Commodore saved from the scrapheap.

Stuffing around as kids my neighbour put his foot where it shouldn't be chopped his big toe clean off he was fairly upset to say the least. But yeah looks much better without the guard.

as a BMX rider in my 30s, I have had an issue in the past with proving the validity of riding BMX to others. You might think 'why would you care what other people think of you?'.
A fair question. Most people think it's silly to worry about how you're viewed in the world. I agree to some degree. As I have gotten older, I have questioned a lot of the things that I do, to wonder if it's worth doing, just because I enjoy it.
After a lot of thought over the years, I came to the realisation that I really enjoy BMX, but it's the slew of positive aspects to BMX that not only help me enjoy BMX, but contribute to a higher value of life itself.
I'm a firm believer that BMX is not just riding a little kids bike. If you are doing things that have positive traits, you are not only improving at the thing you're doing, but those traits are contributing to a stronger and better self.. Helping you to become a better person.

I have a giant mountain bike ride heaps and heaps as a grommet and was credible on a box.
only got the giant a year and a half ago after a good decade off treadlies.
Rode it a bit and felt better the joy the pure simple joy with the headphones on and cruising through a bush track on a mountain bike took me back to my youth it was pure bliss the first few times and now I really enjoy going for a cruise with the kids as well with their bikes.
I have entertained getting a dirt jumper like other adults here however I cannot afford to snap a bone on a pump track.
id like to say I'm past it but within ten minutes I'd be trying to do old school Saran wraps and heel clickers,, right before the ambulance comes to pick up the semi bald semi fat 40 year old man lying on the ground getting laughed at by ten year olds.
Insert: 3 years ago I had a go on a good 8 foot half pipe on a skateboard Everything was going well,50/50 grinds and a couple rock n rolls ,,, I cranked a 360 through the coping on my back trucks and thought faaaaark yeah I'm lighting it up.....
people were hooting and kids were clapping,,, it was my turn to shine....
went for another one just to show I could stomp them, I slipped the board shinned me and I landed on my nose, claret was flowing from my snout and my shin everywhere on the ramp from my head as well as I'd bruised my forehead.
kids screamed and I put my shirt on my nose it was good fun...
that was Saturday
On Monday I went to my job where I worked with other people who had their lives in order doing mbas and multiple investment properties.. I had a black eye and a bruised forehead and my nose was scuffed up... it Brought me great joy to tell these dip ****s that I did it on a skate ramp...
I limped for a week and a half
